The cocotte originated in France where this casserole dish was designed to cook chicken dishes: in fact, the word "cocotte" itself is the French word for "little hen". Since then, however, the cocotte casserole dish has been used to make a wide variety of other dishes including soups, stews and ragouts. Beginners can use them as they try their hand at tasty oven-baked dishes and professional French chefs can't do without them for gratins or delicate soufflés. This particular cocotte is grey, adding a hint of elegance when presenting food at the table, round and has a diameter of 24 cm. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, cast-iron is an excellent heat retainer and is good at distributing heat equally, characteristics which are enforced by Staub's special matte black enamel. This enamel also helps preserve a food's unique flavour. Since a cocotte retains heat well, meat and vegetables can be cooked gently whilst preserving both flavour and nutritional content. It is therefore perfect for cooking healthy meals. Its specially designed lid also releases condensation at regular intervals, keeping meat wonderfully succulent. With the Staub cocotte, you can treat yourself and your guests to beautifully tender meat and delicious-tasting vegetables at any time.

The basil green-coloured casserole dish from the La Cocotte series from Staub – a company known for its high-quality cast iron casserole dishes – ensures that you remain cheerful in the kitchen. You can use the round cocotte on all conventional types of cookers including induction hobs. The cast iron pot is also well suited for the oven. With a diameter of 26 cm and a volume of up to 5.2 litres, it is large enough to cook for multiple guests or the entire family. The design has intentionally been kept simple to clearly emphasise its range of uses. For this reason, the lid has a special drop-shaped structure on the inside to ensure that condensation can distribute evenly on food while being cooked. Thus, you can always succeed in cooking tender meat and juicy vegetables. The two cast iron handles on the dish’s side as well as the lid knob make it easy to handle the cocotte. Another advantage of the cocotte is its coating, which is made out of enamel and is ideal for transferring heat. Gentle and healthy cooking is made easy with this. Cleaning the cocotte also presents no problems. The cast iron used also ensures a particularly good braising effect. Pick Staub’s cocotte if you want your ratatouille or coq au vin to benefit from the special material properties of the casserole dish.

More and more people come to appreciate the special taste of meals that have been cooked for a long time, but less and less people actually have time to spend half a day in the kitchen. The solution: Let your cookware do the work all by itself.
Take an estouffade d’agneau, for example. The braised lamb dish is a classic example of traditional French slow-cooking, best done in large quantities for family and friends.
With a cast iron Cocotte, all you have to do is prepare the ingredients and sear the meat, then place it in the oven for several hours. The special structure of the STAUB Aroma Rain lid even takes care of the basting for you. And when it is done, the bright yellow enamel coating looks great on the table as well!
Your food will be so delicious that your guests will want to keep eating. If there really are any leftovers, don’t worry: Some say it tastes even better the next day.
